My wife and I had an extended stay at La Grange. Simon was a very welcoming host and was responsive to our many requests and questions.
The barn has been tastefully renovated and has all the mod-cons necessary for an extended stay. The large loft style bedroom with ensuite was a pleasant change from other accommodations we have rented. We dined alfresco on the private patios and enjoyed having access to the beautiful pool. High speed Wi-Fi is an added benefit.
The location is perfect for visiting the region. Laroque des Alberes is a picturesque village at the foot of the mountains and next to the vineyards and fruit orchards. Our accommodation was just a five-minute walk to the center of the village for the boulangerie, great restaurants and shops.
It is a 20-minute drive by car to the beaches with a choice of wide sandy beaches or neat little coves. We both enjoy hiking and were thrilled to find so many hiking trails in the foothills that can be started from the barn. Otherwise, the 20-minute drive gives access to a multitude of coastal hikes near Collioure, Paulille or Port Vendres. We also explored the extensive network of bike trails with access to the beaches and beyond.
Ceret and Collioure both have great weekend markets that are not to be missed. The nearby boulangerie, Castros is one of the best we have ever experienced. Definitely try the Petrie Cereale!!
Being so close to the Spanish border we did day trips into Spain, including to Salvador Dali’s house in Port Lligat and the port of Cadaqués. Girona is just over one hour away.
We have been back to La Grange several times since our initial stay, and we hope to return again soon!
